Drive fails to read the CD inside

* Check for scratches on the surface of the CD.

* Clean the CD surface as dust and sirt on the surface of the CD may be preventing the drive from detecting the disk. Start cleaning with a clean cloth, preferably cotton , starting from a point near the central hole of the cd and take a spiral path for cleaning the surface.

* Make sure that the drive shows up in system properties

* If everything is ok, try running a CD that u hope to run well.

* Restart computer

* Remove drive from device manager and try redetecting it and reinstall drivers
