* Improper configuration of driver- Check BIOS for drive type and see to it that controller is enabled if built in to motherboard
* Bad power supply or power cable is not properly seated- Try reseating the cable. If that doesnt work, measure the voltage output at the wires. The power is okay if 12V and 5V are available.
* Bad data cable- Try replacing it with a good one
* Defective drive- Try replacing the drive
* Controller is not working properly- Replace the controllerand retest. If it is built in to motherboard, disable it thru BIOS, insert a card base controller and retest.
